Justin Wilson Dies at the Age of 37

Justin Wilson has passed away after succumbing to injuries he suffered during the Verizon IndyCar event on Sunday, August 23.

Wilson was taken to the Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest in Allenton, Pa after being struck in the head by debris from the car of Sage Karam. He remained in critical condition until later afternoon Monday.

Despite winning a total of 7 races, Wilson seemed to have trouble showing his talent to others. He was close to landing opportunities in larger teams but deals never closed. According to USA today, mainly because of lack of sponsorship.

Wilson used his knowledge of the race track to implement safety alternatives for fans. Wilson was a caring man, who made sure he left his mark in the world.

Wilson’s devastating death opens Pandora’s box again, making us wonder if the IndyCar should enclose its cockpits. Because of tradition, safety is not the best for IndyCar drivers. The cockpits are open and their helmets are exposed.
