As I begging a new career as a Graphic Designer, I find myself doubting myself constantly. I proud myself for being positive and always looking at the bright side of life but I can’t help sometimes to be really hard on myself and lose my mental focus.
Here are some tips you can use when you find yourself in that place where you doubt yourself to get out of that zone and be the real you.
-Talk Positively to Yourself.
You think you sound silly when talking to yourself in a positive way? I bet you don’t think that when you are “punishing” yourself for what you would consider a “silly” action. Talking positively to yourself is healthy. Don’t believe it? Think about the negative thoughts you have about yourself and go back in time to where those thoughts started. Mind you, some people have external forces that made them feel that way about themselves but I guarantee you, most of the time, those negative words started with you.
Saying that, why not try it the other way? Start by taking 5 to 10 minutes of your day to just be nice to you. Stand in front of a mirror and complement yourself. Physically, mentally, emotionally… all around. It might seem silly at first but the more you repeat those words, the more you start believing them… the more you start believing in the real you.
-Set Goals
Give yourself a goal… something to accomplish. Write your goals down and keep track of your progress and your process. Why? You can see your growth, it is more tangible. You can see how far away you are from accomplish that goal you’ve set in the first place and that could be what gives you that last bit of energy to complete whatever it is you are trying to achieve.
-Visualize
It is not enough to set your goal… you have to feel it, you have to see it and you have to live it. Close your eyes and see the big picture, take your mind to the moment you started and remember those notes you took. It sounds silly but if you visualize your progress, if you see each step you took to get to where you are now in your mind, the steps you need to take to finalize your journey will be easier to take.
Rehearse in your mind; picture not only what you’ve done but also what you will do and how you will do it. This will bring you closer to your goal.
-Simulate
Yes, visualizing is great because you can practice as many times as you want in your mind but practice is what makes perfect. Put yourself in similar situations and wonder, what would I do if I were in the moment of truth?
For example, do you have a big presentation coming up soon? Surround yourself with supportive people, a small group that you can practice with. This would be your simulation of the big picture.
Implement these techniques in your daily life and your mind will be unbreakable.
